Former undisputed welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has reportedly accepted a short-notice offer from the federation to headline UFC Saudi Arabia this weekend against former champion Robert Whittaker – replacing the ill Khamzat Chimaev – according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.

Usman, a former undisputed welterweight titleholder and pound-for-pound number one, has been sidelined in Abu Dhabi since October of last year, when he faced the aforementioned Chimaev in a short-notice co-main event bout.

Kamaru Usman suffered a controversial points loss to the Chechen in his first fight at middleweight and is now being linked with another outing at 185-pound weight limit. Whittaker even offered him a challenge beforehand and urged him to stay at his limit.

And with a change of opponents needed within days of the organization's first appearance in Riyadh this weekend, the UFC has signed up-and-coming Ikram Aliskerov to face former middleweight champion Whittaker – with Dana White claiming all other challengers in the division have refused to fight on the date.

However, according to his client Abdelaziz, Usman had agreed at short notice to fight the favourite Whittaker from Auckland, but that ultimately came to no avail.

“@USMAN84kg sad (said) yes,” Ali Abdelaziz replied to a user on his official X Account.

He himself claimed that he had no idea who Dana White's Contender Series Aliskerov was a real product before booking the fight – Whittaker is tasked with inflicting the up-and-coming challenger his second loss in MMA – after himself suffering a KO loss to Chimaev earlier in his tenure.

In his last appearance in the co-main event of UFC 298 in February, Whittaker landed an impressive points victory over former middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa in Anaheim.
