Inzaghi's contract extension with Inter complicated, but progress possible soon

Inter are still working on a new contract for coach Simone Inzaghi, which has proven more complicated than expected, but an agreement could soon be in sight.

The 48-year-old Italian tactician led the club to its 20th anniversary.th In the 2023-24 season, he won the Scudetto in dominant fashion and transformed the team into a true European top team after last year's Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.

Inzaghi's current contract with Inter expires in June 2025 and the club is keen to extend his stay, despite the change of ownership from Steven Zhang and Suning to US fund Oaktree.

Contract talks with Inzaghi

Page 36 of today's Gazzetta dello Sport details that Inter had hoped to extend Inzaghi's contract by one year until 2026. However, the coach and his agent Tullio Tinti had other ideas and wanted a two-year extension until 2027, which complicated negotiations.

The two parties could reach a compromise on an extension clause linked to certain results. A new meeting between the Nerazzurri management and Tinti will take place in the coming days. An agreement must also be reached regarding his salary, but this is not a major problem for the club.
